Hambletonian Extends Contract at the Meadowlands

The Hambletonian, the world-famous trotting race, will remain at The Meadowlands Racetrack through 2018. The Hambletonian Society, the race sponsors, and The Meadowlands have extended the existing contract three additional years. The Meadowlands has hosted the event since 1981. The $1.2 million renewal takes place on Aug. 3. The Hambletonian, first contested in 1926, is part of the Trotting Triple Crown for 3-year-olds. Prior to coming to The Meadowlands, the Hambletonian was presented at five different venues, including a 25-year run at the fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Ill. that concluded in 1980.
